I grew up doing workbooks with my mom from the time I was 2 until I started school. I was the fourth of six children and I always felt so important having my own homework to do along with my big sisters. It was also fun bonding time with my mom.
Now as a mother myself, I have been big into workbooks with my own children. Since my oldest was 2, we have been working on them. She is now 6 and I swear we have tried every method of Preschool and Kindergarten book out there. My problem was that I never really felt like they were helping that much. I really wanted her to read but these were mostly teaching letters and how to color pictures. I know there is importance in that, but I really wanted my one-on-one learning time to count.
My sister told me about this book. Her kids did this program and have been reading really well on their own for years. My 7-year old nephew finished The Book of Mormon (similar to reading over half of the Bible) entirely by himself. I decided to try it with my kids and let me tell you... AMAZING!!
This book has 100 lessons but with my oldest, we only got to lesson 61 and she just took off! My oldest just started kindergarten and she is reading chapter books on her own, on a 2nd grade level. As a result, she loves school and feels confident and happy while there. She can even help me by reading to her younger siblings.
This is a video of my 3 year old reading.
